Di Nigeria Centre for Disease Control don reveal say meningitis fit spread from person to person through coughing, sneezing and even kissing.

Report dey show say Naija don record 961 cases wey dem dey suspect and 56 people wey don kpai inside 32 states for di country including di Federal Capital Territory for 2022.

Na on October 5th di world dey celebrate World Meningitis Day so dem go fit tell people about di disease.

NCDC still point out say meningitis na disease wey fit cause epidemic and dem dey get cases all year round for Naija. Di side wey dey feel am most na di “Meningitis Belt” of Africa, wey dey south for di Sahara Desert. E dey happen more inside Naija for all 19 states for di north, di Federal Capital Territory, and some states for di South.

NCDC been drop ststaemebtnfor dia Facebook page say:

“Meningitis is mostly spread from person to person through respiratory droplets e.g. coughing, sneezing & close contact such as kissing.

“Meningitis can affect anyone at any age. Seek medical attention if you experience symptoms.

“Let’s take action to #DefeatMeningitis.

“The most common signs and symptoms are fever, headache, nausea and vomiting, photophobia (pain on looking at bright lights), neck stiffness, and altered consciousness levels.

“In younger children, it may be more difficult to observe these signs, and irritability, poor feeding, and inactivity are common.

“Meningitis can also cause meningococcal septicemia, presenting with fatigue, severe myalgia (muscle pain), vomiting, cold extremities, rapid breathing, low blood pressure, and a purpuric (dark purple non-blanching) rash”.
