Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Dr Oludare Adeyemi of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) yesterday say him don achieve breakthrough for Breast Cancer treatment, when him recently treat one breast cancer patient without Mastectomy (when they remove the breast because of cancer). Him describe the treatment as microseed treatment wey requires using radioactive seeds.
Him advise women to dey go for regular screening for breast cancer in order to detect the disease early.
Him say them first use this new procedure for Canada for about two years, now them they use am for few places for USA but na him be the first inside Africa.
This Microseeds treatment na the first for the whole of Africa, and e enter Africa through Nigeria, the procedure dey conserve breast, because conserving breast dey vital for cosmetic and omoge reasons.
Adeyemi say Microseeds treatment na one day procedure, unlike the Convention Radiotherapy wey dey take four weeks. For the procedure, them go place Microseeds inside the tumour bed under ultrasound-guided, but the Microseeds Treatment procedure only dey appropriate for now, for early breast cancer.
Dr Adeyemi say the factors wey dey cause Breast Cancer na hormonal factors, age, environmental factors and lifestyle, he come advise make women dey do exercise, live healthy lifestyle and dey examine their breasts regularly.
